Abbeydale Picture House

Discover the Secrets of Sheffield’s Grandest Picture Palace – Free Guided Tours with Mike Higginbottom
Sunday 21st September

As part of Heritage Open Days, we’re opening the doors of the iconic Abbeydale Picture House for a rare glimpse behind the scenes of this magnificent Grade II listed cinema.

Join local historian and architectural expert Mike Higginbottom for a guided tour through one of Sheffield’s most intriguing hidden landmarks. You’ll explore the building’s unique history—from its opening in 1920 as a combined theatre and cinema, to its stunning stage and fly tower.

Don’t miss this chance to see inside the Abbeydale Picture House before its full restoration—and learn about Sheffield’s rich cinematic and architectural past from a true local expert.

Tours are completely free but must be booked in advance.
There will be three one-hour tours available throughout the day.

Places are limited so please only reserve a ticket if you are certain you'll attend.
